回复 :黄英姑（薛家燕）生性乐观，与女儿孙敏华（汪琳）等一家人自给自足。英与邻居王志祥（许绍雄）交情甚笃，其子王剑（吴启华）更把英当作再生母亲看待。时下的香港贪污盛行，在摊档工作的英因欠债，偶然会替人当替死鬼做偿还，坐数日监。一次，英不知就里，便一口气答应当替死鬼，结果被人屈成杀人犯，判以死刑。英行刑剪下辫子，吩咐当狱警的祥将之交给华做纪念。英死后冤魂附在辫子上，却因辫子落在装有关公像的证物房里无法出来，一困十数年……转眼间剑已长大成人，当上警察，正直的剑因不愿贪污而只能负责看守证物房。剑在证物房翻出英的辫子，二人终相认。当年驾祸给英的叶家声（张兆辉）升做探长，把关公像重新移位，英冤魂得以重获自由。英挂念华，剑积极助她寻找华的下落；而剑亦得英的帮助而屡破奇案，许是宿命使然，英找到了华，却发现华如她一样被屈做替死鬼……
